The Portrait Room
We absolutely love our wedding photos!
They are exactly what I wanted and what I hoped for! Taking my time researching for a photographer and looking through the portfolio on The Portrait Room website was definitely worth it. I love how the photos show the moods, the joy and fun and are still very romantic! “ Barbel & Daniel
Wedding photography in dublin
that will make your heart sing
The Portrait Room… using our vision and experience
To be in the right place at the right time, we blend in at your wedding as quiet observers to create photographs and films that are truly timeless. We are there when you need us and in the shadows as you’re blissfully enjoying your day. For us, the best wedding photographs show real connection, knowing glances, genuine smiles, and heartfelt tears. We would love nothing more than to capture the look on your Dad’s face, the sound of your Mum’s laugh, your touch as you reach out to hold your Granny’s hand. These are the moments that drive us and what we celebrate through the art of wedding photography and videography.
About - The Portrait Room
Dublin is the home of The Portrait Room wedding photographers. Award winning photography for couples who love photography but hate to spend time posing. Our promise is that we will make more time for you to spend with your guests! It is also the Home of Guinness but that is a different story although they are not mutually exclusive! We have been photographing weddings around Ireland since the Easter Rising at the GPO. Actually that is not true but we did start photographing weddings together as the Portrait Room in 2016 which was the centenary of the Easter Rising.
My name is Roger and I started my photography journey back in school were we were lucky enough to have a darkroom and an art teacher interested in film photography and cameras. Teaching us about the great American and French street photographers of the 20th century. After leaving school I went on to study photography and received a BA Hons from university. Much of my time was spent in the Photo Museum of Ireland in Temple bar formerly the Gallery of Photography which is such an excellent resource. Their exhibitions and book shop is one of my favourite places to visit in Dublin… especially on a rainy afternoon. You can view some of my film camera work on my Fine Art page of the website. Here you will find limited edition prints which you might find interesting.
This website is a photography resource for you if you are getting married in Dublin. We are here to help you make the best possible decisions. Such as the best wedding venues in Ireland. Places to stay and pubs to go to for a pint of Guinness when you are in Dublin. Just make sure to bring your camera as I have discovered Dublin maybe the smallest capital city in Europe but it has the most diverse landscape and cityscape. With so many great places of interest historically and photographically. All within a small and easy to get around area. Get in touch with Shane and try one of his Howth Adventures and enjoy walks along the cliffs and discover the history and folklore of this incredible city founded by the vikings. Or how about visiting sea the world famous Forty Foot sea swimming area next to the James Joyce Martello Tower.

Roger - Born in the Rotunda Hospital…. along time ago! When I started shooting weddings I did so with a Nikon F100. I just loved that camera. The way it felt in my hand. The sound of it’s shutter. Each Monday morning after a weekend of weddings dropping the film into the labs to be processed. Waiting till Wednesday to pick up the contact sheets. A lot has changed and sometimes I miss the old film days but to be honest the faster, lighter cameras and lenses have now made wedding photography such a joy. Being instantly able to review your photographs on the back of the screen, to be able to shoot silently so as not to interfere with a quiet moment. My favourite combination is my Sony A7RV with the 35mm GM 1.4. It is light and small, lets me squeeze into corners and work some awkward but creative angles. Allowing me to compose the multi layered compositions that I love so much. My favourite photograph is one that stops you and makes you think. What am I actually looking at. What is the story here…. what has just happened … what is about to happen? I want my photographs to be all about connection. The connection between the people in the photograph. My connection to the subject is also important whether it is a moment where I want them to notice the camera or maybe not notice it. When I am not photographing weddings I photograph luxury incentive travel groups to Ireland mainly from North America. I also love portrait photography (hence the name) and I have been taking portraits of some of Ireland’s best known actors and entertainers since 2006. You can see some of my portrait work on my other website.
By the way… I am married with three teenage children. I love sea swimming, saunas, rugby and just recently bought myself a set of golf clubs! Our wedding was in Dun Laoghaire in a yacht club where my wife sails from.
I also love good coffee, dogs and live music. Most recently going to see The Smile who played at the 3 Arena in Dublin. My favourite music venue in Dublin is Whealan’s. Around the corner is my favourite secret music venue which is actually a recording studios called Camden Studios. Although I have not had a “drink” in 12 years I am a big fan of whiskey tours and Guinness 0.0. There are lots of distillery tours and brewery tours in Dublin which are actually great fun with a light sprinkling of culture.
Hannah - After traveling the world with her camera Hannah returned to Ireland in 2016 with the view to becoming a wedding photographer. That is when she got in touch with me at The Portrait Room. We have been working together ever since at weddings and events all over Leinster. Hannah also shoots using Sony cameras with prime lenses. Her work always amazes me as she manages to make even the most nervous bride look so calm and beautiful. Hannah is also so good with children and is well known in Dublin for her newborn photography. If you would like to see a portfolio of her work just let me know and I can send you the link.
Chris - Chris joined around the same time as Hannah. So many couples were getting in touch asking if I knew a good videographer that would match my style of photography. To be honest I did not! So many wedding couples I was photographing had not done the proper research and booked a videographer who was totally at odds with the style they wanted. So I met with Chris and asked him to be the Portrait Room’s videographer. We work together at to save you time and we always know where each other are. There is also the added advantage that because we work together we communicate to each other what we are going to do. Or if we spot a good location or an interesting reflection we will always let each other know. We are happy to be in two different locations such as the bride getting ready and the groom getting ready. Often I will shoot a little bit of video and likewise sometimes Chris can step in and take some photographs. He is also an excellent wedding photographer so if you would like to see his portfolio just let me know. It is a synergy that really works and we are also great friends. Hannah and I were honoured to be asked to photograph his recent wedding and I am delighted to say they are expecting their first child this Summer!
